  32. In Frustration, Why would maya’s OpenMaya python API remove the MStringArray and MString objects but keep MFloatArray etc. Why? To get the uv set’s I have to create an empty list and fill the list with strings? Most worthless piece of code design ever!!

    Also, the entire OpenMaya api is backward. Making no sense in a python world, and barely in C++. Retarded application, that’s what I have to say about it

    • Great sample! That is cetxaly what I was looking for to improve the graphics of my 2d game. But the (bad) performance still remains a serious problem for me. In my game, the (scrolling)levels are much bigger as the one in the sample. Furthermore i also would like to add some more lights. I tried this within the sample and the result was like a slideshow I experienced that the most performance loss comes while drawing the shadowvertices (last lines of the DrawShadows method). Maybe merging all convexhulls shadows to one single buffer could help here. Also precalc the shadowvertices on specific events (eg. on new light, on new convexhull, on lightposition change, on convexhullposition change, on scaling light range ) instead of doing this each frame. Therefor an illumination manager class, which holds shadowvertices and manages all convexhulls and lightsources, could be helpfull. Just my thoughts. Any further ideas?

  33. It is very rare to find qualified individuals on this subject matter, nevertheless, you sound like you understand what you are dealing with! Thank you

    • Build mine using Twenty Eleven, customized it (got rid of a lot) and always made sure to check how the browser on my phone handles the page.

  43. I have to say that the new stop condition in Houdini’s FOREACH SOP is very useful.
    By pointing the condition to a value handled inside the loop, you’re able to break out of it.

    Similar to a BREAK statement.

  44. As I web site possessor I believe the content material here is rattling excellent , appreciate it for your efforts. You should keep it up forever! Good Luck.

  45. Why does Houdini ship with it’s own Python Interpreter?
    As if it’s not difficult enough to find the right x64 or x86 package distributions using windows already!

    No, the Houdini version is custom compiled in VS2005 and VS2008, I’d rather have the x64 default 2.6.4 distro.
    QT becomes unstable, I can’t get CGAL to work, spend a day compiling the original source in order for Hython to work with these libs.

  46. Ahhh, H12 is compiled under windows using VS2008.
    Hopefully this means I can use the default python distribution and third party packages.

  47. Just added a rather big tutorial on Houdini’s Grid based fluids and dynamics environment.
    Check it out if you’re interested!

  48. Made a quick python operator in Houdini to create a triangle out of cubes.
    I love cubes! Used to generate the header image

    # This code is called when instances of this SOP cook.
    geo = hou.pwd().geometry()

    # Evaluate our parameters
    width = hou.pwd().evalParm("width")
    slope = hou.pwd().evalParm("slope")

    # Initialize base numbers
    height = 0
    offset = 0

    # Compensate for slope
    width_offset  = 2*slope
    slope_offset  = 1*slope

    # Compensate for center
    center_offset = float(width) / 2.0

    # Calculate Point Grid
    while width > 0:
        for i in range(width):

            # Create the point
            point = geo.createPoint()

            # Get the x position
            x_position = float(offset+i) - center_offset

            # Set the point in space
        # Compensate the position every iteration
        width -= width_offset
        height += 1
        offset += slope_offset
  49. Ow hello world, C# makes life easier. Taking care of what should be taken care off. Leaving me with the control I do need. Parsing data, process, show me that world. Hello world

  50. A QWidget contains buttons, right? So why does a QPushButton have to know to which QWidget it belongs?
    It’s like sausage needs to be manufactured so it needs to fit in the box it ships in. Why, oh, why do we not have cubic sausages then!?

      • Maybe, but why spend money on a book?The only thing that will give you abs is keeping your body fat pncreetage (BFP) below 11%. You can do a thousand crunches a day, but if you’ve got a BFP of 15% you’ll have laundry on that washboard. The actual pncreetage differs for each person (we all store fat differently).Do about half an hour of cardio every day, and a few anaerobic lifts to increase overall calorie expenditure.
